THE
LOW FREQUENCY IN STEREO
- Interview to Per Plambech
Hansen Hi!
Are you doing ?
Very good. Saw “and you will
know us my the trail of dead” yesterday in Copenhagen.
So f..... good live band !
Where are you from ?
Denmark (1-guitar) and Norway (3)
What about your city ?
3 from Haugesund, Norway and Per
Guitar are from Copenhagen, Denmark. We have all been
living in Copenhagen for a while.
Can you introduce your project and its band members in
a few words?
Per Plambech Hansen - Guitar
Per Steinar Lie - Bass
Hanne Andersen - Key
Ørjan Holand – Drums
We all play a lot of different instruments, so we chance
a lot in the studio and also sometimes live.
What
was or is the general idea behind this project? When and
this project has started? Where does the name "The
Low Frequency In The Stereo" come from?
Per And Per Steinar who startet
the band had the idea to try make music in a different
way like normal song writing as we did in other bands.
Here we wantet to jam the hole thing and also not have
a normal song structure with vocal and stuff. We startet
in Norway-Haugesund about winter 1999.
Do you feel that you belong to a musical scene?
We have never feelt like we belong
to a special musical scene. People always ask if we come
from the postrock scene, but no we more like a rockband.
We are not shoegazer`s even though we maybe can sound
like one sometimes. We like to see ourselves like a soulful
instrumental rock band. We want people to understand what
we are all about just by listening to us. Sometimes we
smash our
guitars, and sometimes not. No we haven`t got so much
money, so we try not to break so many guitars. The question
was if we was part of a special musical scene. The answer
is no.
Which moods do you like to spread most with your sound?
We play with our stomach and not
with our brain. The songs are made there and then. It
is a different feeling everytime, but we are trying to
find a balance between balance and the feeling you can
get if you are on a top of a sky high building. Sometimes
it is pure pop music, sometimes we feel like just making
a collage with noise. We try to be as honest we can be!
"Travelling
Ants Got Eaten by Muskins" is the title of your second
album. Could you describe its musical contents? And to
what is it inspired? Is there a specific theme to the
album?
The album are more straight and
faster than the first album. We wanted to make music that
was more rock and roll and also some tracks you could
dance to. We did the record in Copenhagen in 10 days.
So the album is inspired by the city and also some of
you last tours.
Which are the past artists who have formed your musical
culture ? While who are the ones you listen to and appreciate
most nowadays.
We have been listening to a lot
of old lo-fi stuff, Jazz from the 70`s with Pike and Kriegel.
Not so much to the post-rock scene actually. We are more
inspired by old stuff, which we put into a new dimension
of how we think modern rock music should sound like. But
the band have generally a very different taste in music.
Some jazz some lo-fi and some likes alternative rock.
What was the most exciting experience during your work
so far?
We haven`t seen our most exciting
experience yet, we hope.
But there are of course many small things happening all
the time during a tour period. Worst experience is being
attacked by a naked finnish guy who played in Jimi Tenor`s
band in a sauna after arguing what was the best band between
Ac/Dc and bon jovi. He claimed that Bon Jovi was more
rock roll. The idiot!
Do
you hear the world as one big sound generator?
Yepp, the world is our stage. We
have distribution almost everywhere now. Even the labels
are small, people can reach us if they are interested.
If you have problems reaching us, you can alway send us
a mail at: band@lowfrequency.dk
What do you think about the actual indie / post-rock
scene in your country?
Most of the bands nowadays are into
retro stuff. We are one of the few bands who look to the
future. In Copenhagen there is not like a post-rock scene,
and we are not it to that kind of stuff anyway. Ofcause
we all like old Mogwai, Slint, Codeine and so on. But
there is not some much new stuff we hear or know for that
matter.
Do
you change the songs around live?
We sound more harder, direct and
with more jamming on stage. We try to arrange all the
songs so we can play them 4 people and not with 10 guitars
like on some recordings haha.
Is there insight any future release, collaboration or
parallel activities?
We have some side projects going
on. Per, has litte jimmy reeves, together with the drummer
in Kashmir, Per S and Ørjan has The Gin and Tonic
Youth! and Hanne has recently started with a country band.
Is there anything else you would like to mention about
your band?
We are at the time working on the
new record. We have done about 5-6 new tracks. And at
the sametime we have 3 songs in the danish film Nordkraft
www.nordkraftfilmen.dk.
Our record is will come out i the US now. |
